The Association for Plant Taxonomy has instituted ten medals for outstanding contribution in Taxonomy and Dr. B.V. Shetty Award for Best Thesis in Angiosperm Taxonomy. These medals were established mainly from the funds received from their respective former students, associates and friends to commemorate these distinguished scientists.
- Dr. H. Santapau Medal was established in 1998 from the funds received largely from St. Xaviers College, Mumbai. The Medal is awarded to an eminent scientist who has contributed over a long period to taxonomy of plants (preferably higher plants)
- Prof. Bashir Ahmed Razi Medal was established in 1998 from the funds received from Prof. Razi’s students, associates and friends to commemorate of late Prof. B.A. Razi. The Medal is awarded to distinguished scientist who has outstanding contribution in plant taxonomy.
- Prof. M.B. Raizada Medal was established in the year 2009 from the funds received from his sons and his student, Dr. Santosh K. Agarwal. The award is given to an eminent scientist who has outstanding contribution in plant taxonomy.
- Sri Jnan Chandra Medal was established in 1998 from the funds received from her daughter, Dr. (Miss) Veena Chandra, in commemoration of late Sri Jnan Chandra, a well-known scholar of Indian History and Culture. The medal is awarded to a scholar for his/her research publication on cultural (such as faith, belief, art, etc.), religious and mythological aspects of plants in Indian life.
- Dr. S.K. Jain Medal was established in 2007 from the funds received from Dr. Jain’s student Dr. P.K. Hajra, in loving memory of his son Late Mr. Pradosh Kumar, a B.Tech. from IIT, Mumbai. This award is for young and active taxonomist (32-45 years) who has helped in promoting the objectives and activities of Taxonomy of Angiosperms. Only post doctoral work is considered for this medal award.
- Prof. K.S. Thind Medal was established in 2007 from the funds received from Prof. Thind’s student Dr. B. M. Wadhwa for the Mycologists who have done notable work in the field of taxonomy of fungi for several decades.
- Prof. Ram Udar Medal was established in 2009 from the funds received from his students in memory of Late Prof. Ram Udar, FNA, Professor of Botany, University of Lucknow, Lucknow. This award is given to a person for his/her outstanding research contribution in the field of Bryology.
- Prof. B.N. Prasad Medal was established in 2009 from the funds received from his son and his students. The award is given to an eminent scientist who has outstanding contribution in the field of algal taxonomy.
- Dr. Vishwanath Mudgal Medal was established in 2010 from funds received from his wife, Mrs. Archana Mudgal to commemorate Late Dr. Vishwanath Mudgal, a distinguished scientist of Botanical Survey of India. This award is given to a young Women Scientist (below 40 years) with Ph.D. and at least 12 years research experience after M.Sc. or 7 years after Ph.D. and has published papers on revisionary or floristic work on flowering plants.
- Prof. S.S. Bir Medal was established in 2013 from funds received from his student, Prof. M. Sharma , Punjabi University, Patiala and his wife Mrs. Sushil Sharma for a worker who has made noticeable contribution in the field of taxonomy of Pteridophytes.
- Dr. B.V. Shetty Award was established in 2013 from the funds received from Dr. B.V. Shetty’s student Dr. Paramjit Singh, Director, Botanical Survey of India for the best thesis in Angiosperm Taxonomy (Floristics and revisionary work) submitted to any Indian University
Dr. S. K. Jain Best Paper Award: Dr. S. K. Jain Best Paper Awards for Phytotaxonomy awarded to best research papers of each volume in the field of (a) Angiosperms (b) Lower groups. A cash award of Rs. 500 and a certificate is awarded.
