The Association for Plant Taxonomy (APT) was established in the year 1998 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 (No. 598/2006-2007). Head Quarters of APT is located at Botanical Survey of India, Northern Regional Center, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India.
The Association for Plant Taxonomy (APT) was established in the year 1998 to promote research in Plant Taxonomy and provide intellectual and moral support to all researchers in plant taxonomy.
The Association also promotes skill of unemployed youth and creates self-employment opportunities for the students of Biodiversity and Environment by giving proper training in these disciplines of Botany. Besides, it also organizes workshops, seminars, symposia and training courses for the benefit of researchers of Botany.


APT publishes Phytotaxonomy journal on Plant Taxonomy covering all groups of plants for promotion of the objectives. It also encourages scientists who have made outstanding contribution in the field of taxonomy (Research and Education) by giving awards in the form of medals and citations.
The Association has a total of 449 life members till date. Eight persons joined the society as Life Members during 2016-2017. In the last couple of years, the association has created two awards for writing best papers (on Higher and Lower groups) in each issue and travel grant to two young researchers not getting the fellowship, for herbarium consultation tour
